"Hopscotch" Reading

From: Mike Kamen

David, each time I begin to get seriously into your book on OS X, I am brought to a screeching stop by an explanation that compares what is with what was.

I'm a "I've seen the light" PC user and I have no prior experience with Macintosh in any iteration, and I find the retrospective comments hugely distracting.

Any thoughts about how to read more "fluidly?"

Thanks,
Mike

You're not the only one—several people have mentioned how annoying those comments are (i.e., "this feature is much different from its Mac OS 9 incarnation").

In the new Panther Edition of the book, I've edited almost all of that out; most of the time, it's not really essential even for old Mac heads!

You might also consider Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual. It's much of the same material, but written specifically for the former PC user, with a lot of extra stuff about how to transfer your old files, re-use your old gear, etc.

Thanks for the feedback—you're right on.

David
