Software That Comes with Manuals

From: Robert Morrisette
Date: October 2002

I cannot understand why you claim that Adobe and FileMaker do not furnish manuals. I just bought Adobe Elements and FileMaker. Both had very complete manuals.

I don't remember saying that FileMaker doesn't have a manual.

Photoshop Elements, however, comes with a manual only if you buy it at retail. Far more people get it free with their digital scanner or camera, with no manual.

In any case, I don't rule out doing Missing Manuals for software that comes with some sort of guide, simply because I believe we can do a much better job. The software company's manual, for example, is generally certain to contain no humor and no workarounds for bugs and poor design. (Because that would entail admitting bugs and poor design!)
