Faxes and Cable Modems

From: Chris Wiley
Date: March 2003

I recently upgraded my Windows 98fe to Windows XP Home Edition. I took the precaution of buying the Missing Manual before I even attempted to do the upgrade.

I thought it would be a good idea to set up the abilty to receive or send faxes. Setting up my printer was the easy bit. However, my cable modem is not installed on the system as a modem, but as a Network Adaptor, plus it is a USB device.

A question has crossed my mind on several occasions regarding this: How would I send or receive a fax when I don't have a dial-up modem?

I look forward to receiving your reply. Excellent book, by the way.

Many thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I don't know of any way to do that, apart from signing up for a service like Efax. It's a service that lets you send and receive faxes by email.

I hope this helps!

David
